I agree with the others here in saying what is owed to our veterans and servicemembers is medical care, mental health care, other assistance when needed, and to not get into wars we don't need to fight (ergo they are not expendable bodies to be used on a whim). We owe them respect for their time, and what they have done, the same for anyone who serves the community-at-large like Police Officers, Firefighters, EMTs, Disaster Relief Volunteers, and others.What we do not owe to them or anyone is to bend down and kiss ass. Not all, but a handful of veterans and ardent supporters make you believe if you are not bowing down and worshiping the ground our veterans grace then you are some how disrespecting them. I especially dislike how the author of the article starts off by getting his shorts in a knot over someone dressed in a pseudo-Nazi uniform for Halloween, and how no one was offended. Kind of late for that, since Nazis, Hitler, and the other evils of WWII are the perfect insult for others, especially politicians people don't like. Nazis have been reduced from a mass-murdering society of evil, to public option healthcare and their backers. The camps at Auschwitz and Dachau are now euphemism for doctors visits for the elderly who are dying. So why only the 'outrage' when someone masquerade as a Nazi for Halloween? If anything, the display is disrespectful to millions of people whose only crime was heritage. The soldiers knew what they signed up for/drafted into. They knew what their job was. The victims of the Holocaust and other acts of genocide didn't have that. If there is any reason to be upset over the costume, veterans fall to the very very bottom of that list.
