I'm of the opinion that Firefox will not be unseated by Chrome so long as Chrome is surrounded with privacy issues. I have no doubt that the information Chrome collects is used strictly to further Google's advertising business but I know that there are a significant number of people who don't really want their browser tracking their surfing habits. Seeing as how this is exactly what Chrome is intended to do, I can't imagine ever switching from Firefox.
Catholics are shooting themselves in the foot. I was raised Catholic. I went to 14 years of Catholic school. I had some really good teachers (even some nuns) who taught me most of the bible was crap. They told me to take the best lessons from the bible and apply it to my life. I was told you need to take the bible with a grain of salt. Look at the stories as a metaphor, and not a literal truth. The thing I got out of my Catholic teaching was if Jesus was alive to day he would be most aligned with progressive values. If you follow the teaches of Jesus you will believe in universal healthcare, a compassionate judicial system, and use of diplomacy over war.The only thing that is separating Catholics from Democrats is the abortion issue. I know a lot of former Catholics (myself included) who have left the church because of this rift. A lot of these people are joining more liberal churches or giving up on religion all. With liberals leaving the church in droves and the sex abuse scandals, the Catholic church is in bad shape here in America.

“There is only one Republican Congressman I can think of who was anti-war and pro small government, and he was not at all content when Republicans controlled both houses. In fact, he was so discontent that he felt it was necessary to run for president in 2008. Too bad his own party treated him like an outcast during the nomination process. Apparently real conservatives don't belong in the Republican party anymore.

Stopping the stimulus may be a strategic move, designed to allow some failures to occur in order to get support for the continuation of stimulus. Lehman Bros. was allowed to fail, before secretary of treasury Paulson pulled out his bazooka and made a $700bn ransom demand. If there wasn't a single massive failure, or if Lehman was forced to merge with the competition (like Bear Sterns), how much money would he be able to get? The support for stimulus is fading with many questioning the effectiveness of their quantitative easing programs. Maybe the central bank has chosen to step on the breaks to make an example of the situation. This could be a scare tactic, or could be a result of factored in inflation fears. I do not believe, however, that we've seen the end of intervention. This is merely an intermission. |

My thoughts? I don't question whether green is good for me - obviously, anything that reduces the pollution in the air I breathe or the water I drink is good for me. It's not ***** difficult - obviously I depend on a healthy environment to survive. What I question is whether or not a product labeled "green" actually makes a significant difference. For example - you have the local vs. organic debate. Do I buy vegetables grown locally or do I buy organic vegetables grown in Argentina? Obviously, run-off containing pesticides and fertilizers is a problem, but is it more of a problem than the pollution that results from burning the fossil fuels required to transport these "organic" vegetables thousands of miles? It's not that I have a problem with going green. It's that I have a problem with going "green," or in other words, simply buying into whatever the label promises with no effort made whatsoever in the fact-checking department.
