| And by beg you mean "Threw lots and lots of money toward him so he wouldn't accept the lots and lots of money the other networks would have been willing to pay him". It was anticompetitive - kind of reverse dumping. Instead of accepting tiny amounts of money for a product to kill of the competition in that market so you can dominate, NBC gave large amounts of money for a product (Jay Leno) to prevent the introduction of competition (from Fox, ABC, whoever) in the market (late night talk shows) so they could (continue) to dominate. That said, I don't think it should be illegal or anything, in case you got that idea. But it was a little greedy for Leno (I want to be doing late night, but I want to be filthy stinking rich even more) and a little evil of NBC (we don't want to allow America to have more choices in the late night sector). |

Nah, we're 9th.
The company I work for had no problem wrestling control of dozens of accounts from impersonators. It helped though that the accounts were actively being used to impersonate our brands (with an attempt to profit) which violated the Twitter TOS. It only took a few weeks before our legal department managed to work things out with Twitter and get control of all the accounts. Not sure why large corporations like Walmart and Hyundai are having issues though.

Here's my solution to the problem:Since it seems that "marriage" has some biblical (i.e. religious) basis, why not keep it as such?Eliminate the idea of having to get a governmentally-provided "marriage license", and change it to a "civil union license", grandfathering all current marriage licenses to be considered civil union licenses. But going forward, the government would provide just a "civil union license" on a state-by-state basis, and each state would make the determination who qualifies for that - be it male with female, or male with male, or female with female, or even human with animal if that state should so choose. As for the "marriage" part of it, leave that in the church. Continue to have churches have the ability to "marry" people, with the only difference being that they'd get a "civil union license" instead of a "marriage license". That way it's up to each church to determine if they will marry only heterosexual couples or what-not. That way the "sanctity" of marriage is preserved, and yet allows for other types of unions as well..

I bought my MacLaren so I could win the local stroller races. It has more horsepower and blows away the competition.

All of those settings are adjustable in about:config. Not only that, but FF automatically selects values based on your computer's resources. If you have more RAM, it uses it for cache. if you don't, it doesn't.

Williamson, the "butterfly & larva hybridizing" guy, has made a whole career out of publishing bizarre articles about impossible hybridizations:http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=%22w ...He's a typical representative the tenured and completely bonkers, but not so bonkers that he can't write a coherent paper, scientist, a species almost only found in the UK. This unfortunately means that a lot of the truly bizarre and irreproducible stuff comes from the UK. Just yesterday we had the yearly recurring "ring finger length determines your personality" article here on Digg, another crank topic from the UK.The take-home message really is that science is conservative to avoid accepting too many false theories, but theories which are true tend to survive the test of time and become mainstream, no matter how fringey they seem at first. |
